IMPORTANT: What's happening with the Loch Long Salmon farm application?
This message was emailed on the Community email, and posted on Facebook. Just in case you missed it, here's what's happened so far with the Long Long Salmon (LLS) semi-enclosed salmon farm application, and what will happen next.
As you are no doubt aware, the proposed LLS development has been receiving much publicity and everyone at the Community Council (CC) wants to ensure you are up to date on what we have been doing with regards to this proposal.
What we have been doing to date
The CC have been in regular contact with both Highland Council and LLS regarding the proposed application and how we should approach it.
Following the LLS verbal presentation at our February meeting, we have requested written updates from LLS to avoid any sense of bias. The subject has been discussed at our regular monthly meetings, minutes can be found on this website in the Community Council pages.
Members of the CC have met with members of Appin CC and Development Trust (DT) and discussed the approach to the proposed development and canvassing local opinion. We have set up a Financial Sub-group to deal with the proposed and widely-publicised Community Led Benefit Fund. This is not as any indication that we are in favour or not of the plans, but so that our community doesn’t lose out in the event that the plans are submitted and successful.
What we envisage doing in the future
We are currently still in an informal pre-planning phase. There are various phases before a planning application can be formally submitted.
Initially, a notice of the proposed application (PoAN) has to be served to the Argyll and Bute Council and to the relevant Community Councils. Once this is done, formal consultations(PAC) can commence. Duror and Kentallen Community Council is a relevant Community Council (as a statutory consulted body).
The PoAN notice must be served at least 12 weeks before any planning application can be submitted. It must include a plan showing the outline of the development.
Once the PoAN has been served and the PAC stage begins, the plans will be available and we will consult with the community for questions. LLS can submit their planning application no earlier than 12 weeks and no later than 18 months following the submission of the PoAN.
Once the plans have been submitted for Planning, we have 4 months to respond. We will then again consult the community for their views on the application and submit a comment based on the community view. Of course individually you can comment on the plans directly with the planning authority during this period. In the meantime if you have any questions or comments at all at this point please reach out to the Community Council either by sending an email to dkccinfo@gmail.com or through the website: https://www.durorandkentallen.co.uk/community-council.
